Africa has been plagued with HIV/AIDS for decades. Some regions have been faced with higher rates of infection and death than others. In the population of 19 million people in Uganda, an estimated 1.5 million Ugandans are infected with HIV. It is estimated that an additional 500,000 have probably already died of AIDS.
While there have been recent declines in recorded rates of infection, Uganda is still considered to have one of the worst HIV/AIDS problems in the world. The situation in Uganda is far worse than what is imaginable by those of us living in the US.
In November 2005, Alan Locke traveled to Uganda to spend some time at an orphanage where women and children living with AIDS reside. Alan spent several days learning about the village, learning about the orphanage, and seeing firsthand the troubles the people of Uganda deal with on a daily basis in caring for the sick people in rural regions of Uganda.
AiM for Restoration of Hope – Uganda is an organization whose focus is on care, education and the reduction of the spread of HIV, reducing the deaths caused by AIDS.
Alan has raised more than $8000 that is being donated to the orphanage so they can purchase the land necessary to treat and care for the residents in need in that region. Our continuing support and ongoing fundraising efforts will help fund a new building with classrooms and dormitories for the children of Uganda.
