IBE Projects Win AIA/LA Design Honor Awards

Los Angeles, CA - June 4, 2008
As a testament to IBE's commitment to design excellence, three IBE projects were awarded Design Honor Awards from the Los Angeles chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) last night at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). The projects are: the Water + Life Museums, the Art Center College of Design South Campus, and the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility.

IBE was instrumental in ensuring that the Water + Life Museums complex became the first museum project to become certified by the USGBC with a LEED® Platinum rating. IBE teamed with Lehrer + Gangi Design + Build on this 70,000 sf museum complex, which includes the Center for Water Education and the Western Center for Archeology and Paleontology. In addition to the AIA/LA Design Honor Award, the project also received the following awards: the Beyond Green High Performance Award from the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council; the AIA Pasadena/Foothill Design Honor Award; and two Gold Nugget awards (Best Sustainable Commercial Project Grand Award and Best Public/Private Use Facility Merit Award).

IBE worked with Daly Genik on the Art Center College of Design South Campus project, which included the 90,000 sf Graduate Fine Arts Program building and a 16,000 sf flexible performance/exhibit space. An adaptive reuse of industrial wind tunnel and support buildings, the project was one of the first in Pasadena to be granted LEED® certification and also was awarded an Honor Award from the AIA California Council.

IBE provided mechanical engineering design services on the schematic level to Morphosis on the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility, a 208,271 gsf satellite operations center in Suitland, Maryland. The project attained a LEED® Gold rating.
