Alan Locke, PE, Partner
Mechanical Engineer

Alan Locke founded IBE Consulting Engineers in 1999 with the idea that engineering components of building design should be integrated and recognized into the architecture. Alan strives to facilitate principal level involvement in the process ensuring integrity and client satisfaction.

Alan’s experience covers a wide range of building types including laboratories, hospitals, museums, art galleries, libraries, schools, corporate office buildings, and entertainment facilities. Alan has extensive experience in campus planning, feasibility studies, value engineering sessions and master planning projects. In his career, Alan has completed over 100 projects, from conceptual design through construction and commissioning. Alan has a particular expertise in designing sustainable buildings.

Having taught engineering design and construction practice to architectural students at UCLA, USC, and SCI-ARC for the past 10 years, Alan is currently an adjunct professor of Climatology and Environmental Control Systems at UCLA's architecture school.

John Gautrey

John Gautrey, PE, Partner
Mechanical Engineer

With more than 20 years of experience, John Gautrey has served as lead mechanical engineer responsible for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems' design and project manager for a number of multi-disciplinary projects. He has been responsible for the overall organization and coordination of the services design teams for museums, stadia, sport and recreation facilities, university buildings, hospitals, and laboratory projects, along with civic, cultural and performing arts centers.

John’s interest and expertise in sustainability, energy efficiency, and flexibility has contributed innovative design solutions to many sustainable and energy efficiency award winning projects such as Carmel Mountain Ranch Library in San Diego, CA and the LEED Platinum-rated Audubon Visitor’s Center in Pasadena, CA.

Bungane Mehlomakulu, PE, Principal
Mechanical Engineer

Bungane Mehlomakulu, a graduate of Queen’s University in Canada, joined IBE Consulting Engineers in 2002 and has quickly immersed himself in advanced technologies, specializing in the design of radiant systems.

Bungane has been responsible for the sustainable and efficient designs of the award winning Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California and the Westminster Cultural Center in Westminster, California. The recently renovated Art Center in Pasadena has won multiple awards for its energy efficient design and performance and recently received a Certified LEED ® rating for efficiency.

William Hank Dahl, Jr., Principal
Electrical Designer

Hank’s experience in electrical design ranges from large scale medical and medical research facilities, entertainment industry projects, office buildings to museum design. Hank was the Lead Designer for the Getty Villa Renovation project while with Kocher Schirra Goharizi Consulting Engineers. He was also the senior designer and project manager for the design of the Disney Sound Stages 6 & 7, WDI 1133 Flower and 600 Paula, TV Animation, ABC Network News, Warner Bros. Dubbing Theater and Feature Stage, and expansion of Concord Pavilion. While at Kocher Schirra Goharizi Consulting Engineers, Hank collaborated with IBE Consulting Engineers on the MEP design for Ronald Tutor Hall for the School of Engineering at USC. Hank has 35 years of experience in the various facets of building electrical designs.
